BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE

Arthur Bliss Seymour (1859-1933), mycologist, was born in Moline, Illinois on January 3, 1859. He graduated with a B.S. degree from the University of Illinois in 1881 and received an M.S. five years later. For forty-seven years, until his death in 1933, he was with the Harvard University Herbarium. In 1888 he co-authored A Provisional Host-Index of the Fungi of theUnited States and in 1929 he prepared a Host-Index of the Fungi of North America.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

The Seymour papers comprise correspondence, manuscripts, and lecture notes that relate to his professional career as a botanist and mycologist.

This series consists of eighteen files of handwritten notes on a range of botanical subjects.

Ferdinand Von Mueller memorial; Host Index notes, plans, and correspondence; and a miscellaneous file can be found in this series.

Series 5     Photographs
                   1 folder

Photographs of Roland Thaxter (2), Asa Gray, and of the Gray Herbarium make up Series 5.
