The New York Botanical Garden has completed cataloging and imaging its approximately 92,000 vascular plant type
specimens. Basic information from all types in these families has been
captured in the database, but some of the records are more complete
than others.
The digitization of the vascular plant type specimens was funded by a grant from the Xerox Foundation. Students in the Biomedical Photographic Communications Department of the Rochester Institute of Technology and Xerox provided technical assistance. The Imaging Manual created by RIT can be downloaded by anyone insterested in learning more about the technical aspects behind our project.
Note that not all paratypes are indicated as such on specimen annotation labels
(they are often only noted as "type" or "cotype"), and known paratypes
are not included in this catalog. To find specimens of paratypes, use the Quick Search
option of our Search
All Catalogs page.
To search the Vascular Plant Types Catalog by the name of the plant
(family, genus, species, or subspecific epithet), author, collector,
collector number, barcode number, or type status, use the Quick Search
